Mission

To create a theater company that restages and rewrites Shakespeare’s tragedies to take an honest look at the tragedies BIPOC and LGBTQIA experience every single day in the streets, along the border, in the military, and in prisons across the United States of America

Vision

To enable BIPOC and LGBTQIA to see themselves and hear their own voices, languages, and cultures reflected in Shakespeare’s plays

Values

  1. We will always stage an inclusive not exclusive Shakespeare

  2. We believe that Shakespearean performance in America should absolutely look and sound like the changing demographics of America: a multiracial, multilingual country that is evolving into a minority majority

  3. Although the plays we stage may not be “real,” they will always speak the TRUTH about the experiences of BIPOC and LGBTQIA in this country

  4. We don’t just entertain, we teach EMPATHY as our audience members spend a couple of hours in the shoes of BIPOC and LGBTQIA

  5. We honor the code of the United States Marine Corps: SEMPER FIDELIS. America Shakes is “always faithful” to the Truth, Justice, and Equality for all of us who find ourselves living in the United States of America
